The Columbia College men’s soccer team opened up conference play with a victory over the Benedictine University at Springfield Bulldogs on Wednesday evening. Goalkeeper Brady Wulff shut out the Bulldogs in the Cougars’ 7-0 victory over their American Midwest Conference foes.
Senior midfielder Andres Acosta led the charge with three assists. The first set up defender Nikola Velickovic, who scored in the 14th minute.
Rafael Ramos, Marco Paunovic, Dale McCormack, Liam Cain, Majd Haidar and Inaki Suarez extended the Cougars’ lead with a goal each. Cain, a sophomore midfielder, also had an assist.
With the win, the Cougars advanced to 2-0-1 on the season.
The Columbia College women’s team also won in its game against Benedictine earlier on Wednesday.
Both teams will play their first home game on Saturday. The men begin at 2 p.m., and the women take the field at 4:30 p.m.
