The third-ranked Columbia College volleyball team won its 148th consecutive regular-season match in the American Midwest Conference in St. Louis on Wednesday. The cougars defeated No. 20 Missouri Baptist University 25-22, 25-19, 25-21.
The Missouri Baptist Spartans had won their first 22 matches and were the last team to defeat the Cougars in conference play in 2002.
Senior Paula Ferreira was six-for-six on kill attempts with 34 assists. Junior Carol Berger contributed 12 kills in 15 attempts for the Cougars. Brooke Simpson, Trinity Ojo and Kahoriz Feliz added 8, 6 and 6 kills respectively, and Elena Berroteran had 11 digs.
The Cougars were superior to the Spartans in hitting percentage, hitting 0.326 compared to Missouri Baptist’s 0.195.
Columbia College will compete in the Bellevue Premier Classic in Nebraska on Friday and Saturday against St. Xavier University, Dordt College, Taylor University and Bellevue University.
The Cougars have eight conference matches remaining this season.
