Wednesday, verbal commit Marvin Terry was not included in Missouri’s National Signing Day class. Thursday, it became apparent why.

Terry, a linebacker from Dallas, has been in jail since Jan. 25 on multiple charges of domestic assault.

The charges stem from multiple alleged incidents involving his girlfriend of two years. The woman was eight months pregnant with their child during the first incident. During the second, Terry allegedly threatened to take her life.

On July 31, 2015, an arrest warrant was issued for Terry on assault family violence charges. In the alleged incident, said to have happened three weeks earlier, Terry “used his open hand to push her in the face, causing her to fall down” after a verbal argument, according to Dallas County documents. His girlfriend then “fell on her side and started having abdominal pains,” said the report.

She and Terry had been dating 18 months at the time and she was eight months pregnant with their child.

Bond was set for $1,500 for Terry and later raised to $3,000.

The second alleged incident, said to have happened Jan. 5, involved the same woman. Terry allegedly “pushed her down, hit her numerous times with his fists and kicked her on her ribs, causing her to feel pain and bruising.” He then allegedly “stated that he would kill her and give her a reason to call police, causing her to fear for her life.”

Terry faces two charges for the latter incident: assault family violence and causing bodily injury twice within a year and assault family violence impeding breath or circulation. The bond for the charges was set Jan. 25 at $15,000 each.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch first broke news of the charges Thursday. Multiple outlets reported Missouri will not continue pursuing Terry.

A Missouri spokesperson said, “He’s not part of our program there’s nothing more to say.”

Terry was a three-star recruit, per 247Sports’ composite ranking, out of South Oak Cliff High School. The 6-foot-2 222-pounder was ranked the 24th-best prospect nationally at his position and 57th-best recruit in Texas by Rivals.

He announced his verbal commit Dec. 12 with a photo of him, head coach Barry Odom and safeties coach Ryan Walters at Memorial Stadium. He was the first verbal commit since Odom’s hiring was announced nine days earlier.
